Surfing has really taken off in and around Dunbar in recent years. The nearby beaches of Belhaven, Thornton Lock and Pease Bay ensure a variety of breaks when the swells are rolling in.
Belhaven is a long, sandy bay with a number of points where the break can work well, but varies with the lay of the sand. Ideal for beginners.
Thornton Lock offers a more consistent break being over limestone pavement. There are some parts which provide a nice peak with both left and right breaks at most states of the tide.
Pease Bay is a smaller sandy bay, with rocky outcrofts on both sides, bringing consistency to shape of the waves.
Check out Magic Seaweed for local conditions.
